Willkommen im Munich - which you will have an opportunity to explore before embarking on your lyrical At Leisure sojourn through the Sound of Music. Join your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a memorable Welcome Reception to kick-start your leisurely meander through Germany and Austria.

Munich Orientation and At Leisure

Embark on a morning orientation tour past some of the city's most renowned sites, including the Opera House, Ludwigstrasse, Hofbräuhaus and Marienplatz, whose Glockenspiel delights visitors throughout the day with its re-enactment of 16th-century tales. Spend the rest of the day at leisure exploring the city's Old Town or consider an Optional Experience to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, the first of the Nazi camps established in Germany. This evening, connect with the city's rich beer heritage and consider a memorable night out at a local beer hall.

Munich – Neuschwanstein Castle – Oberammergau (2 Nights)

Journey to Neuschwanstein Castle, built as a retreat for shy King Ludwig II to retire from public life. Continue through Bavaria, arriving in Oberammergau, where locals have performed the Passion Play every decade since 1634 to fulfil their vow after the village was spared from the grip of the Black Plague. We dine in our hotel this evening.

Innsbruck Excursion

The Tyrol mountains beckon today as you take a scenic drive to Innsbruck, the capital of Tyrol. We spend a leisurely day against a magnificent Alpine backdrop, exploring the city's iconic sights. Admire Emperor Maximilian I's ornate Golden Roof and the Wilten Basilica, the maybe take a trip up the funicular for spectacular views, or see the Hofburg Palace. We return to Oberammergau this evening to indulge in true Bavarian hospitality.

Oberammergau – Berchtesgaden – Salzburg (2 Nights)

Spend a soul-stirring morning connecting with the astounding natural beauty of Berchtesgaden. Venture to Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, where you'll spend the next two nights at one of Trafalgar's 'Stays With Stories' - an exquisite Schloss intimately connected to the beloved 'The Sound of Music' movie.

Salzburg Sightseeing and At Leisure

Tread in the footsteps of musical greats today and join your Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour including views of Getreidegasse, the Salzburg Cathedral, and several of the locations used in the film 'The Sound of Music'. The rest of the day is yours to delve into the city's Mozart history or see the Domplatz, dominated by the Salzburg Cathedral. This evening, we 'Connect With Locals', joining the Klaushofer family and their resident bees on their Salzburg farm for a family Be My Guest dinner, not to mention delicious home-made cheese strudel.

Leave the sounds of Salzburg behind for lakeside Mondsee, where you'll visit Mondsee Abbey, the one-time Benedictine monastery that served as the church where Captain Von Trapp and Maria were married in 'The Sound of Music'. Journey along the mountains and lakes of Salzkammergut and pass the centuries-old salt mines that brought great wealth to the area.

We enjoy an in-depth opportunity to 'Dive Into Culture' this morning during a guided tour of the Kunsthistorisches Museum. Explore the heritage of the House of Habsburg, one of the most influential royal houses in Europe, and its exquisite collection of art in Kunstkammer, before the public gains access. Embark on a sightseeing tour of the city with a Local Specialist to admire its iconic landmarks and palaces. See the beautiful Opera House, Hofburg Palace, and the famous St. Stephen's Cathedral, with its colourful geometrically tiled roof. Spend the rest of the day on your own, indulging in the local Kaffee und Kuchen culture or consider an encounter with the city's rich musical heritage.

Soak up the elegance of the City of Music today, with a full day to embrace the sights and sounds of a place that inspired the great talents of Mozart, Haydn and Strauss. Visit the beautiful Baroque Schönbrunn Palace, see the elegant Lipizzaner stallions at the Spanish Riding School or consider an Optional Experience to Bratislava, capital of Slovakia. As the curtain closes on a magnificent Sound of Music performance, we join our travel companions and Travel Director for a Farewell Dinner.
